Five bodies found in a clandestine grave in Mazatlán; three women among the victims

Members of the collective For the voices without justice of Sinaloa carried out a successful search in a clandestine grave in the municipality of Mazatlán, where they located the bodies of five people, three of them belonging to women.

The first discovery was made during the afternoon of Wednesday, November 6, in a property next to a road that leads from the community of Miravalles to El Tecomate; in that first search, the presence of two bodies in advanced stage of decomposition was reported, in addition to hair and various feminine items.

During the afternoon of this Thursday, the collective indicated that in the company of the State Search Commission (CEB) they managed to unearth three more bodies.

“We are mothers, sisters, wives and we do it with all the love, because we also have a missing relative; we are only looking for them; we are not looking for culprits, we only want to give them a dignified place,” they highlighted on their social networks.
The searchers placed a candle and an improvised cross at the site of the clandestine grave where, with the support of heavy machinery, they began the search work.

According to preliminary information, the bodies recovered during the day of November 6 belonged to two women; while this afternoon another female body was recovered and two more whose sex could not be confirmed due to their advanced state of decomposition.

After exhuming them, the bodies are now in the hands of the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), where they will perform the corresponding expert tests to identify them and deliver them to their relatives.

Sinaloa, second place in clandestine graves

Data from the federal government’s Map of clandestine grave findings show 283 illegal burials recorded in Sinaloa during the period from December 1, 2018 to April 30, 2023.

In total, the federal government recognizes 2,863 clandestine graves located throughout the country, with Veracruz being the state with the most cases, with a total of 344, followed by Sinaloa (283), Guerrero (238), Michoacán (228) and Jalisco (176).

One of the latest discoveries made in Sinaloa was recorded in mid-October, when the Sabuesos Guerreras collective found a skeleton in the vicinity of the Livestock Fair, near the exit to Eldorado.

At the scene they also found remains of clothing and a pair of black plastic sandals, presumably belonging to the victim. It is worth remembering that the Livestock Fair is in the news, because a week before the start of its 2024 edition, an attack was reported on its ticket office, this in the context of the war between Chapitos and La Mayiza.
