Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo warned that the issue of security must be analyzed in a regionalized manner with a shared responsibility between the three levels of government, for which she will propose to the governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri González, to resume the regionalized interstate roundtables.
In light of the massacre at the Los Cantaritos bar in Querétaro where the participation of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel is presumed, the governor said she was aware of the level of insecurity in Guanajuato and pointed out that we will have to see where the investigations themselves lead.
She commented that as governor she has to work to protect her people and the security of the state.
“We know that Guanajuato is not at the levels we want, that is a fact. I said that I was not going to argue about the figures, although we have the means to do so. What we have to do is work for the people of Guanajuato, for security. Although what has been revealed is that there were license plates for a vehicle from Guanajuato, the truth is that it is a shared responsibility that we, the Federation, the states and of course the municipalities, have to have,” she said.
She commented that as governor she has to work to take care of her people and the security of the state, so her efforts will be focused on consolidating the security strategy that is already in place and measuring it to see what results it is giving.
This was when she was questioned about whether the state of Guanajuato is being held more responsible for the massacre at the bar in Querétaro.
The governor also ruled out that there is currently an alert regarding security
Libia Dennise recalled that since she was Secretary of Government she promoted regionalized interstate tables on security, at the time with the three states that make up the XII Military Region, which are Michoacán, Querétaro and Guanajuato, so it will be part of the strategies to be presented to the governor of Querétaro.
Guanajuato proposes strategies
“We have raised the need to resume these interstate meetings, we will be proposing tomorrow at the table we have for strategic coordination so that it can be carried out as soon as possible and we can propose joint actions, it seems to me that just as we have been proposing the regional strategy in the municipalities of Guanajuato, it must also be done in the country with the Bajío region,” she said.
The shielding of the borders, without a doubt, is another program already contemplated in the state security strategy, so she said she is confident in carrying out this shielding at the entrances and exits not only of Guanajuato, but also extending the protection to other neighboring states such as Querétaro.
The governor also ruled out that for the moment there is a security alert where the population is prevented from visiting Guanajuato either for tourism or for work.
Attacks on bars in Querétaro generate fear in bars and cantinas in Salamanca
The attacks on bars, such as the one that occurred in Querétaro, affect the entire sector in a generalized way by frightening the population, even when they were registered in another entity. In the case of Salamanca, similar past events are revived, so a decrease in activity is expected, which currently works 60% less, as indicated by the president of the Association of Bars and Cantinas of Salamanca, Jorge Jiménez.
Despite the efforts of the bar and canteen sector to increase its activity, which has been affected by the pandemic, the lack of nightlife and acts of violence, the desired stability has not been achieved.
Currently, with the attack on the Los Cantaritos bar in Querétaro, the activity of bars and canteens in neighboring states is destabilized. In the case of Salamanca, similar events recorded in previous years also affect the sector.
“Unfortunately, these are very strong events that impact the entire society, and the measure they take immediately is to avoid going to these establishments out of fear. So, yes, we expect, unfortunately, a decrease in our activity,” said the president of Bares y Cantinas de Salamanca.
He stressed that there is still confidence in the authorities, although they have sometimes felt disappointed. However, they are also aware that they do what they can. “We are still waiting to see what could happen. People retire and we have expenses. Right now, in December, with bonuses, rent, taxes, the annual renewal, and with a decrease in activity, it is worrying.”
