500 migrants from the “Cristo Vive” caravan crossing Oaxaca will apply for humanitarian visas in Acapulco

The first 500 members of the “Cristo viene” caravan, who entered Oaxaca territory on Monday, the 11th of this month, accepted their transfer to the DIF estancias in Acapulco, Guerrero, where they will process their humanitarian visa.

The migrants walked for four days from San Pedro Tapanatepec to the Zapotec town of La Ventosa, where immigration authorities offered them buses to take them, some to Guerrero and others to the state of Campeche.

According to the migrants’ versions, the two groups transferred to Acapulco arrived without problems at the headquarters of the state DIF, but the three buses bound for Campeche interrupted the trip near Veracruz.

The migrants, according to their relatives, rioted inside the buses when they realized that they wanted to take them to an immigration station. They only said that they got off the buses and began to walk.

Some 80 migrants from that initial group of 500 foreigners did not accept the transfer and opted to walk this Friday to Juchitán, where they plan to spend the night in what was the Migration Mobility Center, so that they can continue their journey tomorrow to the capital of Oaxaca.

On Monday, the arrival in San Pedro Tapanatepec is expected of the majority contingent of the “Cristo Vive” caravan, which left Tapachula on November 5, with the goal of reaching the United States.
