A 47-year-old man has been taken into custody by Yucatán police for allegedly defrauding multiple individuals by selling seafood that he never delivered. Mario “N” was arrested during a surveillance patrol in the La Caleta area after complaints against him circulated on social media.

According to authorities from the Directorate of Public Safety and Traffic (DSPT), Mario “N” had been offering to sell seafood to several people but failed to deliver the products as promised. When police officers arrived at the scene to speak with him, he attempted to flee, leading to his arrest.

The DSPT has called on victims of the alleged scam to come forward and file a formal complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The agency emphasized that no police officer had any prior dealings with Mario “N” and clarified that this was an isolated incident.

“This action demonstrates our commitment to combating crimes that affect citizens,” said a spokesperson for the DSPT. “We urge anyone who has been affected by this scam to report it to us so we can take further action.”

Mario “N” remains in custody while authorities determine his fate. The arrest is seen as a significant blow against individuals who engage in such scams and aim to reassure citizens that their concerns will be addressed.

The DSPT has also reiterated the importance of reporting scams to prevent more victims from being targeted. By working together with the community, authorities can better combat crimes and protect citizens from falling prey to such schemes.
