The Mexican Navy (Semar), acting as the Coast Guard, reported that personnel assigned to the Twenty-Second Naval Zone rescued three foreign nationals off the coast of Puerto Chiapas, Chiapas.
According to the institution, the rescue occurred this Tuesday during one of the maritime surveillance patrols that naval personnel conduct regularly to prevent illicit activities at sea, such as illegal fishing, and to contribute to the preservation of marine resources and the maintenance of the rule of law in national waters.
During the patrol, a small fishing vessel with two crew members on board was spotted approximately 29 nautical miles (53 kilometers) southwest of Puerto Chiapas. Naval personnel proceeded to provide assistance and rescue the three individuals.
The rescued individuals were subsequently transferred to the facilities of the Twenty-Second Naval Zone, where they received care and were placed at the disposal of the authorities of the National Institute of Migration, in order to carry out the corresponding legal procedures.
