The final section of the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo train line was officially launched, connecting the two cities in a maximum of three and a half hours and generating more than 10,000 direct jobs.
During the “Morning Press Conference,” Claudia Sheinbaum spoke directly with the Governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal Anaya, to inaugurate the construction of the last segment of this project.
President Magistrate Tania Contreras López spoke during the “Dialogues on Electoral Reform.”
“Tamaulipas is working with a vision for the future in many areas, such as our border, which will undoubtedly continue to demonstrate its status as the leading economic border in Latin America.” The governor took the opportunity to thank the president for the extension of the concession for the free trade bridge, as well as its expansion from eight to ten lanes.
On the other hand, Andrés Lajous, head of the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency, was at the state border to present details of this project, which includes three stations: Nuevo Laredo, Anáhuac, and Lampazos.
These are categorized as terminal stations, such as the one in Nuevo Laredo; medium-demand stations, such as those on the outskirts of Monterrey, for example, at the towers; and low-demand stations, such as those in Villaldama and Anáhuac. “In this area, which is truly a zone of significant economic activity between southern Saltillo, northern Monterrey, and the connection with Nuevo Laredo, we have already identified the main services that can be offered.”
In total, the entire route from Saltillo to Nuevo Laredo is 396.34 kilometers, and this section comprises 136.48 kilometers of single track. “In other words, we will have an existing freight track alongside the passenger rail line, and every 20 kilometers a 2.5-kilometer siding that allows trains to be moved if, due to frequency, trains meet. This effectively allows us to use two tracks on the siding section.”
How long will it take to travel from Saltillo to Nuevo Laredo by train?
The train will travel this route at maximum speeds of between 160 and 200 kilometers per hour, so the estimated trip from Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo will be just under two hours, and from Saltillo, three and a half hours.

That is, the project includes long-distance routes along the entire stretch, intermediate routes, and short-distance routes that primarily serve the metropolitan areas, connecting work zones and residential areas in Monterrey and Saltillo.
The construction company is a consortium of Gami, Recal, and Urales, which is already working on clearing and cleaning the land to begin building the embankments, then the subgrade, and finally the track. “We have the right-of-way available, and the company will begin working on the entire stretch starting today.”
