The Nuevo León Tourism Secretariat supported the activities celebrating the reactivation of flights between Monterrey and Durango, and Monterrey and Acapulco, which, along with the Monterrey-Tapachula route, strengthen the state’s connectivity with the north, central, and southern regions of the country.
Secretary Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal emphasized that these flights are the result of coordination between state governments, OMA (Operations-Main Airports), and VIVA (Viva Airlines), and reflect Nuevo León’s leadership in air connectivity.
“Each new route represents confidence and shared growth. With these reactivations, we continue to promote connectivity and generate opportunities for everyone to travel more and better from Nuevo León,” said Martínez Villarreal.
The Tourism Secretariat reported that the Monterrey-Durango, Monterrey-Acapulco, and Monterrey-Tapachula routes operate with several weekly frequencies, strengthening the state’s air connectivity with the north, central, and southern regions of the country.
The Monterrey-Durango route will operate three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, departing at 2:30 p.m. and returning at 5:30 p.m.
The Monterrey-Acapulco route will operate twice a week on Mondays and Fridays, departing at 7:00 p.m. and returning at 12:25 a.m.
The Monterrey-Tapachula route will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, departing at 5:40 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. and returning at 8:45 a.m. and 11:05 a.m.; and on Thursdays, departing at 2:00 p.m. and 4:25 p.m. and returning at 5:05 p.m. and 7:25 p.m. While on Saturday, departures are at 6:25 p.m. and 8:50 p.m., and returns are at 9:45 p.m. and 12:05 a.m.
The Secretary of Tourism for Guerrero, Simón Quiñones Orozco, highlighted the importance of this reactivation of air service and the collaborative work with Nuevo León.
“On behalf of Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda, we express our great satisfaction with the start of operations of the direct Monterrey-Acapulco flight, the result of a valuable collaboration that will strengthen ties between both states and boost tourism in our state. This new connection brings our destinations closer together and invites residents of Monterrey to discover the cultural and natural richness of Guerrero, the Home of the Sun, and invites residents of Guerrero to enjoy the wonders of Nuevo León. We reaffirm the commitment of the Government of Guerrero to continue positioning our state as one of the most important destinations in Mexico. Let’s go to Acapulco!” said Quiñones Orozco.
These routes complement the existing network at Monterrey International Airport, which currently operates 60 active routes (35 domestic and 25 international), connecting to 9 countries and 11 of the 16 host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of OMA, VIVA, and the Nuevo León Ministry of Tourism, the airport has solidified its position as the second busiest in the country in terms of domestic flights and a leading hub for air connectivity in northern Mexico.
“The reactivation of these three domestic routes underscores the consolidation and strength of the Monterrey hub, which has established itself as the most important connection center in northern Mexico, leveraging its prime geographic location to facilitate passenger traffic between the more than 60 domestic and international destinations served from this airport,” shared Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of OMA.
“Monterrey, being Viva’s home city, is very important to us. These new flights to Acapulco, Durango, and Tapachula represent our commitment to continue strengthening its air connectivity to offer Monterrey residents more options than ever before. Our return to these three communities brings new opportunities to boost their tourism and economic development, and of course, a convenient connection to the network of more than 45 routes we offer from Monterrey for travel, vacations, and reconnecting with loved ones,” added Jesús Horacio González, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Viva.
The Nuevo León Tourism Secretariat is promoting a comprehensive strategy to expand national connectivity, diversify destinations, and strengthen the competitiveness of the state’s tourism and business sectors.
With these reactivations, Nuevo León strengthens its leadership in air travel and advances in consolidating its “Get New, Get World Cup Ready” strategy, in line with the state campaign “The Northernmost World Cup is in Nuevo León,” which promotes pride, hospitality, and the identity of Monterrey leading up to the 2026 World Cup.
