The jewel of the Mexican Pacific

The Riviera Nayarit has been recognized by the prestigious international magazine Condé Nast Traveler as one of “The Best Places to Go in North America and the Caribbean in 2026,” one of the most influential lists in global tourism. This designation places Nayarit at the center of the international travel conversation, positioning it as one of the most attractive destinations on the continent. In this edition, only two Mexican destinations were selected, and Riviera Nayarit stands out as the only beach destination included, reinforcing its growing relevance and appeal.

Located along more than 300 kilometers of Pacific coastline, Riviera Nayarit is a mosaic of landscapes and atmospheres, ranging from golden beaches and hidden coves to coastal towns with their own distinct character. Punta de Mita, with its understated luxury beachfront offerings; Sayulita, with its bohemian and surfer vibe; San Blas, surrounded by wetlands and biodiversity; And San Pancho, a hub of artistic and community spirit, forms a route that combines exclusivity with a connection to local culture.

One of the key aspects recognized by the international publication is the improvement in air connectivity. The new Tepic-Riviera Nayarit International Airport has opened direct routes from Los Angeles, Calgary, Houston, and various domestic destinations such as Baja California, Mexico City, and the State of Mexico. With just a one-hour and ten-minute flight from the nation’s capital, travelers can arrive directly at a destination where the Mexican Pacific coast reveals its most vibrant and diverse side.

World-class hotel infrastructure has also been crucial to this recognition. Riviera Nayarit has become home to internationally renowned tourism projects, where contemporary design and sustainability blend seamlessly with the natural environment. Properties such as One&Only Mandarina, Rosewood Mandarina, and the future Siari, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve—scheduled to open in late 2025—elevate the luxury offering with immersive and eco-friendly experiences. These developments are complemented by new investments such as Montage Punta Mita, Pendry Punta Mita, Litibú Bay Club, Omni, Fairmont, Autograph Collection, and Iberostar Grand hotels, as well as the Cirque du Soleil theme park, positioning the region as one of the most dynamic tourist destinations in the country.

Gastronomy has been another pillar in the destination’s consolidation. Internationally renowned chefs have found inspiration in Nayarit’s ingredients and culinary traditions. The publication highlights establishments such as Rubra, by chef Daniela Soto-Innes in Punta de Mita; Carao, by chef Enrique Olvera at One&Only Mandarina; and Toppu, at Rosewood Mandarina, led by Diego Muñoz and José Mascarós. These cuisines engage with deeply local flavors, such as zarandeado fish, aguachile, and camarón a la cucaracha (a traditional Nayarit dish), which are integral to Nayarit’s gastronomic identity.

The region’s rich cultural heritage is also an essential part of the experience. The indigenous Cora, Wixárika, Tepehuano, and Mexicanero communities keep alive traditions and artistic expressions that intertwine with the contemporary life of the state, contributing a unique heritage and symbolic value.
