It is made up of almost 3 thousand people from countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Venezuela and Colombia; Upon entry, elements of the National Guard were escorted

The migrant caravan that left Tapachula, Chiapas, on October 30, arrived in the municipality of Jesús Carranza, in the south of Veracruz; some were treated for dehydration, fainting and some injuries.

It is made up of almost 3 thousand people from countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Venezuela and Colombia; Upon entry, elements of the National Guard were escorted.

Municipal DIF personnel in coordination with other health centers in the region provided medical assistance to the members of the contingent that has traveled more than 490 kilometers since it left Tapachula, Chiapas.

It is a trip in which they have already been walking for more than 60 days with the aim of achieving the long-awaited American dream. The contingent is made up mostly of adult men and women, but there are also about 650 children.

The proposed objective is to reach the northern border of Mexico to cross into the United States, but their first objective is the capital of the country where they hope to obtain the necessary permits from the National Commission for Aid to Refugees (COMAR).

Local authorities report that this is the second group to arrive at the entity in the last two years. Authorities from the Veracruz Public Security Secretariat, the National Guard, as well as agents from the National Migration Institute guard the undocumented immigrants.

As a result of the Coordination Plan for the Prevention of Crime against Human Trafficking, from October 2022 to November 2023, the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) of Veracruz, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), the Secretariat of the National Defense (SEDENA), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN) and the National Migration Institute (INM), have coordinated assistance to more than 15 thousand men, women and minors.

The SSP makes constant efforts to detect people in an irregular situation in Veracruz territory. The operations, carried out with strict respect for human rights, include medical care and the provision of essential food for those rescued.

Originally, the members of the self-named “United Latin American Caravan” dispersed as it advanced, since initially there were more than 5 thousand migrants in the contingent, now only around 3 thousand individuals remain.
