Passenger transport by train: new land connectivity

The passenger rail transportation plan of the Andrés Manuel López Obrador administration includes six lines concessioned to CPKC and Grupo México Transportes.

On November 20, the government published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) a decree “declaring the provision of public passenger rail transport service in the Mexican Railway System a priority area for national development.”

The document establishes the first lines that will be concessioned. Six of them will run on tracks that are currently operated under concessions for freight transportation.

The current concessionaires, Grupo México and Canadian Pacific Kansas City, have until January 15 to submit their service operation proposals; If they are not viable, this could be assigned to Sedena or Navy companies.
