The Sedema published the vehicle verification calendar for the first half of next year.
The Secretariat of the Environment (Sedema) of Mexico City published the Mandatory Vehicle Verification Program for the first half of 2024, which will enter into force on January 2 and will be valid until June 30, 2024.
The calendar was published this Thursday, December 28, in the Official Gazette of Mexico City, by the General Directorate of Air Quality, where it establishes that the current cost of 677 pesos will be updated in February, as well as the fines.
The Sedema highlighted that the purpose of the Vehicle Verification Program is to improve air quality, protect the health of people, the environment, as well as reduce the consequences of climate change and global warming.
The program maintains the conditions of verification of emissions from motor vehicles, as well as the 00 incentive that is delivered to the user.
The agency specified that for now, the cost of 677 pesos is maintained, for the vehicle verification services provided by the Verificentros for all types of Verification Certificate (Hologram “0”, “1”, “2”, Rejection and Technical Evaluation), but it will be updated for the beginning of February 2024, as the Unit of Measure and Update (UMA) is updated by the Inegi.
The amount of the fine for late vehicle verification, for circulating emitting ostentatiously black or blue smoke, or for not having a valid vehicle verification or circulating on a restricted day or time is 20 times the Unit of Measure and Update, equivalent to 2,075 pesos.
This rate will also be maintained until the update of the UMA comes into force in 2024, in accordance with the adjustment published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
The verification calendar of the vehicles registered in Mexico City will continue to be applied according to the color of the circulation sticker or the last numeric digit of the circulation plates of the unit, with the following requirements:
In order to carry out the corresponding vehicle verification, it is necessary not to have debts of tenure and infractions.
New or used vehicles that are registered for the first time in Mexico City, must be verified within 180 calendar days, counted from the date of issuance of the circulation card.
Vehicles already registered in Mexico City that make a plate change must be verified within 180 calendar days counted from the date of issuance of the circulation card.
It should be mentioned that the term to use the payment of the fine for late vehicle verification is 30 calendar days, counted from the day after the payment of it, being the time that is available to be able to carry out and approve the vehicle verification of the motor vehicle.
The program incorporates electromobility in light vehicles in Mexico City through the Environmental Self-Regulation Program, so that companies that are interested can join it, and obtain the benefits of exempting the mandatory vehicle verification and the circulation restrictions established by the Hoy No Circula and Atmospheric Environmental Contingencies programs.
