They will give 3 more months for those interested in regularizing their foreign vehicles in Baja California Sur
Los Cabos, Baja California Sur (BCS). The federal government published this Friday, in the Official Gazette of the Federation, an extension to the decree that allows to regularize foreign vehicles for 2023, which are known as “chocolate” cars; a procedure that is carried out in Baja California Sur and other states of the country. It will be from January 1 to March 31, 2024.
According to the federal government, this measure aims to improve the well-being of the population, grant legal certainty, protect the family patrimony and guarantee public security, especially with respect to the “regularization of used vehicles of foreign origin that have not processed their definitive importation, that is, they have not accredited their legal stay in the country”.
The states where this resolution applies are: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas, regions with a high index of migrant population in the United States and Canada.
According to the information provided by the Official Gazette of the Federation, to date, approximately 1,960,327 vehicles have been regularized, which at the time were illegally imported into the country. Now there are methods to identify the owners of these cars, to prevent them from being used in criminal activities.
With the regularization of these vehicles, approximately 4,790 million pesos have been collected, which has allowed to carry out public works actions in the municipalities of the entities benefited by this decree.
For his part, the president of the Mexican Association of Automobile Distributors (AMDA), Guillermo Rosales, considers that the massive entry of these vehicles only benefits the mafias that profit from their introduction and commercialization.
“Each extension is further evidence of its failure, since it is not possible that, after almost 1.6 million regularized vehicles, contraband vehicles continue to enter daily, having a waiting list and no clear penalty for the owners who do not legalize their units, so this phenomenon will continue as a regularization without end”, he pointed out.
