Veracruz is one of the entities that contribute the most to the Mexican economy. In 2022 alone, it contributed 1.2 trillion pesos to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
With such a figure, Veracruz was the sixth state that contributed the most to the GDP of that year, which shows its importance.
In the entity there are many families that have a large fortune forged from their success in sectors such as finance, industry and retail. Three stand out on the list.
Chedraui Obeso family
The Chedraui Obeso family, of Lebanese origin, began their path to prosperity in Mexico almost a century ago when the patriarch founded a successful fabric store called ‘El Puerto de Beirut’.
Lázaro Chedraui Chaya and his wife Anita Caram de Chedraui, inaugurated their first establishment in 1920 in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz. Over time, and after accumulating wealth, they chose to rename their business looking to expand it, being renamed as ‘Casa Chedraui: The only one of trust’.
This place is recognized today as the precursor of the Chedraui supermarkets, one of the most relevant convenience store chains in Mexico. According to data from its official website, the significant expansion of the business began in 1961 by the hand of Antonio Chedraui Caram, son of the founder.
Hernández Ramírez family
The dynasty is led by Roberto Hernández Ramírez, a businessman from Tuxpan, who is recognized as the founder of the brokerage house Acciones y Valores de México (Accival), which years ago was the owner of Banamex.
The banker was general director of the Banco Nacional de México and the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV). He was also president of the Board of Directors of Grupo Financiero Citibanamex.
His wealth was enough to position him in the 27th place on the list of Mexican millionaires of Forbes, with a fortune estimated at 1.9 billion dollars.
Henry Romero Hernández Ramírez is married to Claudia Madrazo, with whom he has three daughters: Roberta Ramírez Madrazo, María de Lourdes Ramírez Madrazo and Andrea Ramírez Madrazo.
Chahín family
This dynasty made a great fortune in the business of steel production and with Fletes HESA, a transport company specialized in the transfer of hazardous materials, products of the steel industry, containers, bulk minerals and heavy machinery.
In 2015 the Chahín family reached a place on the list of Mexican millionaires of Forbes.
