The total solar eclipse is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular astronomical events for the human eye, as the Moon interposes between the Earth and the Sun, temporarily darkening the sky.

That is why the upcoming April 8th has generated great expectations in Mexico, as on this date this phenomenon will leave the states of Sinaloa, Coahuila, and Durango in total darkness for a few minutes.

The last time the Aztec territory witnessed a total solar eclipse was on June 11, 1991. The event lasted seven minutes, and on that occasion, La Paz, Baja California Sur, was the point where it could be observed in its maximum splendor.

The event caused such an echo in Mexican society that the Bank of Mexico launched a commemorative coin.

The piece is a silver ounce with a matte shine finish featuring a faithful reproduction of the natural satellite and a fragment of the Dresden Codex representing the total solar eclipse.

The Bank of Mexico specifies that it is a 42 mm specimen, in silver, weighing 31.103 grams with a matte shine finish.

On the obverse, it has the Mayan symbol of the eclipse, at the top the text MAYA CULTURE and at the bottom DRESDEN CODEX, to the center right the mint mark of the Mexican Mint.

While on the reverse, it has the moon eclipsing the sun in the center, which is represented by stylized rays around the entire lunar contour.

Although the Mexican Mint does not manufacture this coin and assures that it is not for sale, some people who were able to acquire one at the time offer them on platforms dedicated to electronic commerce.

This is the price of a commemorative coin of the 1991 solar eclipse.

The amount that sellers ask for this coin is not as high compared to what they ask for other units.

On the Mercado Libre platform, the highest price is 2,500 pesos in national currency and the lowest is 1,650 Mexican pesos.

The truth is that there are not many pieces offered with these characteristics, and possibly the price could rise due to the proximity of the next total solar eclipse, which is expected to completely darken some areas for just over four minutes.
