60 percent of the municipal capital lacks service; causes complaints from different sectors

A few light rains were enough to leave a large part of Tulum without electricity from the early hours of this Monday, causing complaints from different sectors.
The rainfall was expected by the population, given the high temperatures brought by the heat wave; and although the problem of blackouts is common in Tulum, the weekend and this Monday it became much more accentuated, leaving more than 60 percent of the municipal capital without service.
Mrs. Mirna Castro, a resident of Tulum, said that it is “maddening” that there are continuous failures in the electricity supply in the municipality. She said that this could lead society to hold a massive demonstration because the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) instead of improving the service worsens it and also makes it more expensive.
“They do not take action on the matter, but now with this heat, who can be happy? You come home from work to rest and there is no light, the heat is unbearable. We want them to take action on the matter because there can still be protests, right now because people are calm, but let people take their limits and obviously they will protest, because I feel that they should take it a little more seriously,” she said.
Meanwhile, Amelia Martinez, another of those affected, said that being without electricity in a time of high temperatures makes people suffer more from this situation.
“This morning there was no electricity, yesterday it also went out, about three days ago too, it does affect because it is too hot and the air conditioning does not work, the fans either, so we did have a critical moment and even more so the people who have to work,” she said.
During a tour of the downtown area it was observed that the road traffic presented problems because there were no traffic lights, while the shops looked empty from the morning until the afternoon, when the electricity supply began to return.
