Minimum wage to increase in 2025 under Claudia Sheinbaum: How much would Mexicans earn per day?

Mexico is about to begin a new political stage when Claudia Sheinbaum, president-elect, takes power. Looking ahead to what will be her first year in office, there is a doubt among Mexicans, and it is: will the minimum wage for workers increase?

Since Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) took power, the minimum wage went from 88 pesos a day in 2018 to 248.93 in 2024, so it is expected that the same will happen with Claudia Sheinbaum, although be careful, everything will depend on inflation in the Mexican economy.

This would be the increase in the minimum wage with Claudia Sheinbaum
Every year the National Commission on Minimum Wages (Conasami) and the private sector meet to discuss the increase in workers’ pay, although it should be noted that AMLO presented an initiative to Congress, so that each year this increase is always above inflation.

If the reform is approved, the minimum wage would always be above the inflation that is registered, starting from January 1, 2025, when Claudia Sheinbaum would already be in charge, as president of Mexico.

According to the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism of the United Mexican States (Concanaco), inflation from 2000 to 2024 has been 116.85% in total, so it is expected that this year would close with a percentage of between 3.6 and 4%.

If this is the case, and be careful, this is only a HYPOTHETICAL SCENARIO, the minimum wage would increase at least 4%, that is, it would go from $249.93 to $259.92 pesos per day, and per month, counting only 30 days, Mexicans would earn 7,797.60 pesos.
