Videos show that the water reached 70 centimeters in height in some areas; aerial images show streets completely flooded.

The storm that hit Chetumal, Quintana Roo, last night caused the flooding of dozens of streets and houses, stranded cars, power outages and material damage; the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) implemented the DN-III-E Plan.
In addition, the Citizen Security Secretariat of the Mara Lezama government, in coordination with the Civil Protection area, the Navy Secretariat (Semar), the National Guard and the Municipal Police launched an operation to help the victims.
This includes the installation of two shelters run by the State Coordination of Civil Protection (COEPROC) at the “Eva Sámano De López Mateos” Technical High School Studies Center and at CBTIS 253 Chetumal.
According to the Secretary of Government, Cristina Torres, yesterday between 11 and 12 at night, that is, in just one hour, there was an atypical torrential rain with a precipitation of 58 millimeters (per second), which overloaded the absorption capacity of the soil and collapsed the drainage system of the city.
Videos spread on social networks show how in some places the rainwater reached 70 centimeters in height; cars are also seen stranded in the streets and these without lighting due to the blackouts that occurred. Aerial images show entire streets flooded.
According to reports from the authorities, some 1,500 people had to be moved to shelters to keep them safe. Meanwhile, personnel from different areas of the City Council of Othón P. Blanco are doing cleaning and sanitation work in different parts of the city to remove the garbage that obstructed the sewers and drainage.
Weather forecasts indicate that rain will continue in the area at least until Thursday, June 20, so authorities will maintain civil protection operations.
