Drug dealing in Baja California Sur is experiencing a worrying upsurge with a 44% increase in investigations during 2024
In Baja California Sur, the number of investigation files for the crime of drug dealing increased between January and May of this year compared to the same period in 2023, according to the most recent cut of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
In the first five months of this year, the state’s law enforcement authorities initiated 390 investigation files for drug dealing, while in the same period last year only 270 cases were registered, which represents an increase of 44.4%.
Captain Christopher Jordi López Monge, general director of Public Security, Preventive Police and Municipal Traffic, reported in an interview that they will continue working in coordination with the Secretariat of the Mexican Navy through surveillance operations in the tourist areas of Los Cabos, where there is a higher incidence of drug trafficking.
“We work in a coordinated manner, carrying out inter-institutional operations, in this case the Navy, working with its marine infantry personnel, as well as its canine team, we have had results and people, vehicles, cash and illicit substances have been made available. We will continue with the patrols in what is the tourist area, the Navy,” said Captain López Monge.
According to the data consulted, Los Cabos is the municipality with the highest incidence of drug dealing in the region, with 257 investigation files registered in the first five months of the year.
La Paz follows with 76 cases. In the municipality of Mulegé, 31 cases have been opened, in Loreto 14 and, finally, in Comondú, 12 complaints have been registered.
