The re-elected president of Chapala confirms that the lake is going through one of its worst years, as it is currently not even reaching 30% of its capacity, which is why he is considering requesting support from the federal government to rethink the distribution of the liquid that is taken to other states.

Alejandro Aguirre Curiel, elected mayor of Chapala:

“Look, the lake issue is an issue that concerns us all, because it is not only an issue for the municipality of Chapala

BUT I BELIEVE THAT THE INTERVENTION OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS IMPORTANT TO HELP US

to first check the quota with the other states that are involved and that the Metropolitan Zone also takes water from the Lake, so I think that there is a dynamic between the states and the Federation because at this moment

WE HAVE LESS THAN 30% AND I HOPE THAT IN THE NEXT DAYS AND WITH THIS THE LAKE DOES NOT CONTINUE TO DROP”

The low level of Lake Chapala could not only affect the distribution of water, but today local commerce is presenting problems in its sales and development, which is why, according to the elected mayor, a plan is already being prepared to support the merchants in the area.

“Today I had communication with the boatmen, they tell me that they are worried about the fact that the water level is going down and that they cannot go on board to take the trips, so we are going to take measures next week with a call channel so that they can continue with their activities.”

Regarding the tenants located around the lake, the elected mayor commented that they will have support with the payment of their licenses and discounts so that they can continue carrying out their activity while the visit of tourists is reestablished.
