As we enter Pride Month, new data from Airbnb reveals that a new wave of travelers is shaping the landscape of global Pride celebrations. From spectators to pioneers, Gen Z travelers are creating new gathering spaces for the LGBTQ+ community.

Over the past five years, the platform has identified an increase of approximately 300%1 in nights booked by Gen Z guests globally, indicating an expansion of these trips as more destinations, both traditional and new, attract young travelers.

Top-rated “LGBTQ-friendly” cities according to guest reviews

Creating safe and inclusive spaces is not just a current trend, but a growing movement. In recent years, Puerto Vallarta has positioned itself as one of the most notable destinations for its “LGBTQ-friendly” environments according to the number of mentions in guest reviews. This year, the city is among the top 10 cities in the world that proudly share the best reviews from their guests2:

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, MX
Madrid, ES
New York, New York, USA
Paris, Île-de-France, FR
San Diego, California, USA
Chicago, Illinois, USA
Wilton Manors, Florida, USA
Toronto, Ontario, CA
Seattle, Washington, USA
London, UK
Not only do these cities host some of the most spectacular Pride events, but their hosts also foster environments where LGBTQ+ travelers can feel welcome year-round.

Millennials continue to lead bookings for traditional LGBTQ+ Pride destinations by maintaining a strong presence and celebrating in family-friendly spaces, while Gen Z is exploring both less common and traditional celebrations and destinations.

Inclusive language as a way to foster acceptance

It’s important to Airbnb that people of all identities, backgrounds, and cultures feel welcome.

New data was released last year showing that the number of hosts around the world using LGBTQ+ inclusive language increased by nearly 90% since 2017, marking a shift toward an even more welcoming and inclusive community on the platform.

Inclusive language helps foster a sense of belonging and safety, which is crucial for members of the Airbnb community, no matter how they identify.

This builds on Airbnb’s long-standing work to foster diversity and fight bias, reflected in its Anti-Discrimination Policy and Community Engagement.
