Inauguran primer vuelo a Islas Marías

A small group of tourists is already enjoying the Islas Marías, Nayarit, after arriving on the first commercial flight aboard a Cessn Caravan-type aircraft, with capacity for 13 passengers. The inaugural flight is part of a pilot test to bring tourists to the island, however, it is already classified as an important event in the connectivity and tourism development of the region.

The aircraft took off from Tepic and landed at the Islas Marías “Carlos Castillo Bretón” Aerodrome on Friday, June 14, carrying the first tourists who will have the opportunity to explore this paradisiacal destination.

The Navy, in collaboration with the Mexico City Airport Group (GACM) and the Islas Marías Integral Tourism Company, coordinated this flight with the support of the company Aero Servicios Guerrero, directed by Luis Alfonso Chong Bravo, and the government of Nayarit.

After the opening ceremony, a presentation was made of the tourist packages currently available and those that are soon to be offered to the general public. These packages seek to promote a model of tourism development that is equitable and respectful of the habitat, guaranteeing the protection of cultural diversity and the natural environment, and applying strict health protocols for the safety of visitors.

The event was attended by the Undersecretary of the Navy, Admiral Julio César Pescina Ávila, and the General Director of GACM, Admiral Juan José Padilla Olmos, as well as the Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Laura Carrillo Cubillas, among other officials. The dignitaries led the ribbon cutting that symbolizes the official start of commercial flights to the Islas Marías.

The Secretary of Tourism of the state government, Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, described June 14 as a day of celebration for Nayarit.

“This achievement highlights the commitment and progress of the region, consolidating the Islas Marías as a reference destination both nationally and internationally,” he said.
Suárez del Real Tostado attributed the success of the test flight to the hard work and commitment of Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, who “has been key in the positioning of Nayarit” as a first-class tourist destination.

The air routes to Islas Marías will be carried out according to demand, departing not only from Tepic, but also from Mazatlán and Sinaloa, thus expanding the access options to this new and attractive tourist destination.

This inaugural flight not only opens new possibilities for tourism in Nayarit, but also boosts the local economy, creating development and employment opportunities in the region.
