Around 21.7 percent of the country’s e-commerce is concentrated in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, revealed the country manager of the online payment platform TipTop Pay, Oscar Rosado.

In an interview with MILENIO, he explained that, according to data from the Mexican Online Sales Association (AMVO), the State of Mexico has 11.8 percent of the market and Mexico City 9.9 percent, leaving behind Jalisco with 8, Veracruz with 5.6 and Nuevo León with 4.9 percent.

He even highlighted that digital natives (children, adolescents and young people born from 1990 onwards) use a mobile device more to buy online.

“Almost 100 percent of the operations are done through a smartphone, so this also helps a lot to continue increasing the participation of the online market in Mexico,” he highlighted.

In addition, he said that this continues to be led by young people because the majority of those who make a purchase online are people between 25 and 34 years old.

Oscar Rosado said that e-commerce benefits small and medium-sized businesses because in 2023 there was an increase in sales of these businesses by this means of 34 percent.

“The numbers and the growth only indicate that this base trend continues to grow (…) we maintain online growth of around 25 percent, since this trend was not only in the pandemic, as it still continues,” he said.
He recommended that those who want to venture into e-commerce should have a payment platform that supports them against any cyberattack or fraudulent transactions.

He also suggested that it is necessary to identify the payment provider that best suits them based on the needs of the company, as well as the equipment to use to start selling online.
