These are the areas of control of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico, according to Global Guardian

The criminal group has a strong influence in the trafficking of various drugs, the security firm points out

The Sinaloa Cartel is a criminal organization that has a strong presence in Mexico. Although there are records, such as those of AC Consultores, that indicate that the criminal group operates in 24 Mexican states, recently the security firm Global Guardian indicates that there are four states that represent its areas of control.

In addition to pointing out that the criminal organization operates throughout western Mexico, in an article published on Monday, June 17, Global Guardian highlighted that the Sinaloa Cartel has a strong influence in the trafficking of substances such as cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl.

The criminal group has links with other criminal structures around the world, specifically in China, where they usually obtain chemical precursors, as well as in the countries of South America, where they obtain cocaine. According to Global Guardian, four states represent the areas of control of the Sinaloa Cartel and although the firm does not detail what happens in each entity, there are reports of actions linked to organized crime in each of them.

One of the states is Chihuahua, where a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel found a way to not run out of water during a drought in the year and thus be able to have enough liquid to satisfy its crops. This was revealed by journalist Luis Chaparro in the media Vice.

Meanwhile, last September, Oscar P, alias El Ruso, was arrested in Chihuahua and identified as a priority target for the Chihuahua authorities, accused of leading Gente Nueva del Jaguar, a cell linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.

To the west of Chihuahua is Durango, an entity in which in August 2009 the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) located a clandestine laboratory in the mountains, it was a space of 240 hectares in Tamazula. There were 22 cabins on the site that were used for various purposes, such as bedrooms, kitchens and infirmaries.

After the discovery, some residents said that men such as Ismael El Mayo Zambada, Ignacio Coronel and Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán lived there, the latter of whom is currently in a maximum security prison in the US.

In Sinaloa, various actions linked to the criminal group have been recorded, such as the so-called Culiacanazo, that is, the capture and subsequent release of Ovidio Guzmán, one of the sons of El Chapo Guzmán.

Also captured in northern Culiacán was Néstor Isidro Pérez, alias El Nini, a subject identified as part of the security group of Los Chapitos, a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by the sons of El Chapo.

It should be noted that the three entities mentioned so far make up the so-called “golden triangle,” a difficult-to-access area where marijuana and poppy cultivation has been reported.

Sonora

Sonora is the latest entity identified by Global Guardian and the presence of various criminal cells is reported in that state. On April 10, U.S. authorities announced Operation Plaza Spike, with which they intend to capture a subject nicknamed El Gigio, who is identified as the plaza boss of the Sinaloa Cartel.

In addition, the security firm identifies Baja California, Baja California Sur, Nayarit, Jalisco and Chiapas as states where the Sinaloa Cartel has additional operations.

One of the ways the cartel operates is the use of technology; its leaders opt for face-to-face meetings to prevent messages from being intercepted. “The Sinaloa Cartel uses violence, coercion, bribery, corruption and intimidation to control and expand territory and grow its operations,” the report said.
