Through a video posted on TikTok, after the arrival of tropical storm Alberto, it was observed how a hotel had been flooded by heavy rains in Cancun, however, this was denied by some users who published images of what it currently looks like.

Although the man who shared the clip mentions that he lives in that area and has published others of what the beaches look like, in photos you can see that everything is going on normally.

Is the hotel zone of Cancun flooded?

Although some users confirmed the facts, it was other people who showed what the streets of the hotel zone of Cancun, in Quintana Roo, look like.

In the video you can see that a person records from the bottom towards the hotel, which is totally flooded, since even some signs cannot be fully appreciated.

It should be remembered that recently Ana Bárbara, famous Mexican singer, shared on her social networks the terror she experienced when she was swept away by the waves in Cancun.

“I had an incident at sea, I have to admit that I was scared, the sea was taking me, now I was really out to sea and I have to say that I saw death face to face, I thought I was leaving, but a beautiful angel took a risk and went into the sea for me.”

How can I protect myself from the rain?

If you live on hillsides or ravines and heavy rain is forecast, prepare an evacuation plan and with the help of Civil Protection identify safe places and consider the following recommendations:

  • If you observe cracks, sinkholes, leaning trees or water flows on hillsides, inform Civil Protection in your area.
  • If you live on a hillside and hear noise, leave immediately, inform your family and neighbors and find a safe place, it may be a landslide.
  • Identifying signs of slope instability can help save lives and belongings.

To avoid flood damage, it is suggested that you:

  • Avoid walking in flooded areas because the water can even sweep away vehicles.
  • Do not walk in flooded areas because there may be power lines under water.
  • Avoid crossing rivers, streams, fords and low areas because you can be swept away by the water.
  • Do not cross bridges if the water passes over them.
  • Report clogged drains and keep them clean.
  • Place sandbags to prevent water from entering your house.
  • Remove objects from your house that could be swept away by the water.
  • In case of flooding, cut off the power and evacuate the space susceptible to flooding.
