‘Lord Coward’ Case: Protesters Block Playa del Carmen Boulevard

Relatives and friends demand justice for Roberto González, who has been without a legal hearing for seven years.

During the afternoon of Friday, June 21st, a group of protesters blocked Playa del Carmen Boulevard at the intersection with 28 de Julio Avenue in a peaceful demonstration led by the relatives and friends of Roberto González. González has been waiting for a legal hearing for seven years.

The protest was organized due to the prolonged delay in González’s judicial process. He ended up in the hospital after being assaulted by his neighbor, identified as Rodrigo ‘N’ and nicknamed ‘Lord Coward’ on social media.

It’s worth noting that, so far, the alleged perpetrator has not received a sentence. Despite having restrictions preventing him from leaving Quintana Roo, he roams freely in Playa del Carmen.

The protesters expressed their discontent with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), accusing it of repeatedly postponing hearings and allowing the aggressor to live peacefully in complete impunity.

“One of the protesters commented, ‘This case has been ongoing for seven years, and they keep postponing the hearings. Roberto’s family is completely dissatisfied.’”

The boulevard blockade caused significant traffic in the area, affecting both drivers and pedestrians. However, citizens assured that their action was temporary and aimed to draw attention to the injustice they believe is being committed against Roberto González.

Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the demonstration or the next steps in González’s case, who is now quadriplegic.”
