Tehuantepec Isthmus Railway makes first cargo trip

With the first cargo trip of the Ferrocarril del Istmo de Tehuantepec (FIT), from Salina Cruz, Oaxaca to Chinameca, Veracruz, the project of the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to reactivate the south-southeast of the country and advance in the logistics revolution of the supply chain through the Interoceanic Corridor was crystallized in the state.

The ship “Mar de Cortés” arrived at the port of Salina Cruz with a load of 13,500 tons of white corn grain from Topolobampo, Sinaloa, the result of a commercial agreement signed between the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Ferrocarril del Istmo and the global food industry company Gruma.

The cargo will be transported by the FIT through three trans-isthmus trips, using three locomotives with a total of 45 new bulk hoppers, each with a capacity to store 100 tons.

Through a communication, the state government reported that the first trip was made from the National Port System Administration (Asipona) Salina Cruz to Chinameca, Veracruz.

“The railway journey was 269 kilometers in an estimated time of 10 hours, thanks to the rehabilitation of the railway that already includes full access for the train system to the port area of ​​Salina Cruz for its loading and unloading of products and the strengthening of the railway equipment,” it detailed.
