With the appointment of Josefina Rodríguez Zamora as the new Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, in the administration of President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, hoteliers from Quintana Roo, Vallarta and Los Cabos joined together to meet with the new head of Sectur and present the needs of the sector.

With this meeting they seek to jointly discuss tourism issues, said Jesús Almaguer Salazar, president of the Hotel Council of the Mexican Caribbean. “We requested a meeting, we sought out and approached colleagues from Vallarta and Los Cabos to go together with the Hotel Council and propose the actions that are urgent for tourism,” said Almaguer.

Almaguer Salazar said he hopes to work in unity with Rodríguez Zamora, since it is necessary to recover a promotion council, as he assures that Mexico lost international presence and the image needs to be maintained to attract more tourists, although he mentioned that the defunct Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico “did incur in excesses,” as reported by El Economista.

As reported by REPORTUR.mx, hoteliers will seek support to resolve issues such as electronic visas and immigration and customs services. (Cancun: hoteliers already have a list of requests for Josefina Rodriguez).

“She is young and has a different vision of how to do things in the Ministry of Tourism. We know that she is close to the current Secretary of Tourism (of Quintana Roo), Bernardo Cueto, and that is an opportunity to get closer. We trust that she will listen to us and support us to achieve the urgent issues,” Almaguer Salazar said at the time.
