The Tulum International Airport, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, continues to grow and is on track to reach 1.4 million passengers by the end of 2024, since according to the Tourism Secretariat of the state of Quintana Roo, from January to June 443,787 tourists were counted, not counting July, the high summer season.
The data reveal that national tourism is the one that has arrived the most at the airport with 275,404 visitors, while foreign/international tourism was 168,383 passengers, now, if we count December 2023, the month it began operations, the figures exceed 450,000 passengers.
Let us remember that the construction of the airport was carried out by military engineers at a cost of 19,200 million pesos, a project that included a 3,700-meter runway and has the capacity to handle up to 55 million passengers per year.
As of June of this year, eight airlines were counted operating at the airport, carrying out 4,330 operations. With this trend, according to the state government, it is projected that by the end of 2024, the airport will reach 11,000 operations and 1.4 million passengers.
It is worth mentioning that the Tulum International Airport offers routes to five national and 11 international destinations, in addition to nine in the United States, two in Canada and one route to Panama. It is estimated that more new airline routes will arrive in December 2024 and early 2025.
It is worth noting that the airport is home to a military air base, number 20, which is responsible for increasing airspace surveillance, implementing the DN-III Plan, fighting forest fires, and providing railway security and surveillance in southeastern Mexico.
