The Walmart chain of Mexico and Central America celebrated the opening of its 53rd branch in Quintana Roo: Walmart Supercenter Huayacán in Cancún.
This is the first of 28 stores within its investment commitment in the state for an amount of 1,175 million pesos during the period 2024-2025, which was announced at the beginning of the year.
This new unit, located in one of the areas with the highest residential development, will house products of the highest quality, including several regional brands, and as its famous slogan says: “low prices every day.”
It also has an interconnected ecosystem of solutions composed of Bait, internet and mobile phone service; Cashi, the mobile application that provides access to financial services; the Health Membership, with pharmacy discounts that adapt to the budget; Walmart Benefits, the program that gives rewards for each purchase, in addition to the remittance service.
This branch generates 128 direct and permanent jobs, as well as nearly 100 in the community. In all the stores in the state, 4 thousand formal jobs are provided and nearly 3 thousand in producers throughout the state.
According to Eduardo Villarreal, vice president of operations for Walmart Supercenter and Walmart Express, this is the first of 28 stores within the investment plan in the state, so it is expected that by the end of next year there will be a total of 80 stores.
For his part, Javier Treviño, Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Walmart Mexico and Central America, recalled that the chain has more than 3 thousand stores throughout the country, has more than 200 thousand associates and is committed to becoming regenerative by 2040 to reduce carbon footprint emissions.
It is worth mentioning that in Mexico 56% of associates are women, which speaks of female talent and an inclusive company, and over 3% are people with disabilities.
The opening event was attended by Mara Lezama Espinosa, Governor of the State of Quintana Roo; Verónica Lezama, Honorary President of the Quintana Roo DIF System and Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, General Secretary of the Benito Juárez City Council.
