The Ignacio Ramírez El Nigromante Cultural Center in San Miguel de Allende celebrates 62 years of bringing cultural activities to society and fostering a taste for fine arts in children and young people through the workshops they offer throughout the year.
The facility, which belongs to the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), opened its doors on August 17, 1962, and has since hosted various exhibitions and conferences.
Currently, the center is under the direction of Laura Bustos, who has been in charge of keeping this space alive through temporary exhibitions where works by those who have been teachers, students and graduates of the cultural center are presented, in addition to giving space to San Miguel artisans and creators.
“The reappropriation that the families of San Miguel de Allende have made is celebrated, this is reflected in the programming that has prioritized the traditional local wealth, the recovery of cultural memory and the appreciation of the talent of teachers and students,” said Laura Bustos.
The facility receives more than 120 thousand visitors a year, as it offers spaces for traditional and experimental ceramics activities, pedal and frame looms; oil painting, watercolor, mixed techniques, engraving, digital photography workshops; classical, folkloric and contemporary dance; ballroom dancing, piano, guitar, singing and theater.
Among the new proposals are workshops on son jarocho, caricature and music for film, in addition to the cycle of recreational activities that includes the creation of mojigangas, puppets, drawing, audio stories, theatrical improvisation and film fundamentals.
The Cultural Center also has spaces to promote reading, such as the Ignacio Ramírez bookstore, which belongs to the Fondo de Cultura y Educal network, the “Nidos de lectura” area, and the “Sala de lectura para juventud Aleph,” which belongs to the National Reading Room Program.
The El Nigromante Cultural Center is located on Dr. Ignacio Hernández Macías 75, in downtown San Miguel de Allende. It offers service from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
