Former Governor of Tabasco Accuses AMLO and Rocha Moya of Making a Pact with the Sinaloa Cartel: “This Government Already Stinks”

Former Tabasco governor Manuel Andrade Díaz said that during the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) there have been ties with the Sinaloa Cartel, which is why he accused the current government of “smelling of corruption and narco-complicity.”

Through a video posted on his social networks, the Tabasco politician spoke out against the arrest of Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán López in the United States (US) at the end of July. He pointed out that their fall has revealed the alleged association between the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, and said criminal organization.

Andrade Díaz took up the letter attributed to ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, which mentions that on the day of his arrest (July 25) he was going to meet with Rocha Moya and Héctor Melesio Cuén, former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) who was murdered on the same day. In this sense, he indicated that there is complicity between the drug trafficking group and the Sinaloa authorities.

“How much of an undercurrent is there behind the problem that the López Obrador government has with the delivery of El Mayo Zambada and his letter? Every day that passes they do more stupid things and risk everything to avoid what is obvious: the complicity and the association they had with the Sinaloa Cartel,” said the former governor of Tabasco.

According to Andrade Díaz, the links that Rocha Moya has formed with the Sinaloa Cartel, particularly with Los Chapitos (a faction led by the sons of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán), are not recent, as they already existed previously.

“There is undoubtedly a relationship between the governor of Sinaloa and the sons of ‘El Chapo’, not just now, but from some time ago”
The former Tabasco governor pointed out that these links can be seen reflected in the statements made by the Sinaloa governor himself. In September 2021 (when he was governor-elect), Rocha Moya indicated in an interview with Salvador García Soto that the “approval” of the drug traffickers was needed to govern Sinaloa.

Andrade Díaz also mentioned that it is not credible that Rocha Moya traveled with his family to the United States on the same day that Hector Melesio Cuen was murdered and ‘El Mayo’ Zambada and Joaquin Guzman Lopez were arrested.

“There are many things, too coincidental. His failed alibi that he was not there when Chapo’s (son) was arrested and the former rector of the University of Sinaloa was killed is also not credible,” he added.

Regarding Lopez Obrador (originally from Tabasco), Andrade Diaz pointed out that he has made an effort to “make it clear to the Sinaloa Cartel that he had nothing to do with the events and never broke the pact (…) The hashtag #narcopresidente and the links between his government, his party, organized crime and drug cartels are not simple assumptions or inventions.”

In addition, Andrade accused AMLO of defending Rocha Moya despite the accusations that have been made against him, for which he mentioned that he should resign from his position as governor of Sinaloa while the corresponding investigations are carried out.

Under this tone, he assured that the current government “smells of corruption”, due to the contradictions and confusion that have been generated regarding the arrest of ‘El Mayo’ and Joaquín Guzmán López.

So far, the Mexican government has not clarified the circumstances that led the two drug traffickers to the other side of the border. One version suggests that Joaquín Guzmán “kidnapped” ‘El Mayo’ and took him against his will to the US, while another maintains that both agreed to his surrender with the neighboring country.

Some of the questions that still persist about the case are the identity of the pilot who took the drug traffickers to the US, the history of the plane’s flight, the place of departure and the possible connection with the murder of Héctor Melesio Cuén.
