More than 600 homes affected by the rains in Guanajuato

The Guanajuato State Civil Protection Coordination has so far recorded damage to 683 homes in 30 of the 46 municipalities of the state. The figure is the sum of what has happened since the beginning of the rainy season, in May, and until today.

Luis Antonio Güereca Pérez, who heads the agency in Guanajuato, announced the above and recalled that the rainy season has not yet ended for the state.

“In the damages, which we have recorded from May 15 to August 19, 2024, 30 municipalities have reported damages due to heavy rains and the overflow of some rivers, streams, drains and canals; in some cases, there is also talk of damages due to some dams,” he shared.

He said that of the 683 affected homes, 318 were affected by flooding to varying degrees and that of these, the water level has exceeded 30 centimeters in 207 while in 111 the level of the flood that affected them exceeded half a meter.

He shared that the 318 houses indicated have significant losses in their assets, especially with regard to furniture as well as household appliances, small household goods, clothing, footwear and other belongings.

Güereca Pérez shared that during this period 39 bodies of water have overflowed, the same phenomenon that has caused the rupture and formation of sinkholes on edges and the overflow of smaller dams.

“In the agricultural areas, 376 were affected, the same ones that went to take refuge with relatives or neighbors to protect themselves while the water in the areas where they live can be evacuated by the pumping equipment,” he commented.
