Urgent resources requested from AMLO for highway 70 Guadalajara-Mascota-Vallarta

Carretera federal 70

On August 20, 2024, the municipal presidents of the Western Coast Sierra region of Jalisco sent a letter to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, requesting his urgent intervention for the allocation of emergency resources to strengthen the “Road Conservation Program” of the SICT Jalisco Center.

The request focuses on Federal Highway 70, which connects the cities of Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, currently in a critical state of deterioration, and which is also widely used for the mobility of inhabitants of mountain municipalities such as Guachinango, Mixtlán, Atenguillo, Talpa de Allende, Mascota and San Sebastián del Oeste.

The letter, signed by the mayors of Guachinango, Mixtlán, Atenguillo, Talpa de Allende, Mascota, San Sebastián del Oeste and Puerto Vallarta, describes the worrying situation of the road, which has potholes, landslides and deficiencies in its maintenance. These problems not only put the safety of those who travel on it at risk, but also affect the economic and tourist development of the region.

The affected municipalities, several of which are part of the Magical Towns of Mexico Program, are key destinations on tourist routes such as the Talpa de Allende Pilgrim Route and the Vallartazo Route, they argued in the signed and sealed document received by the Office of the Presidency of the Government of Mexico.

The councilors emphasize that the importance of this road goes beyond tourism, since it is an essential corridor for local commerce and access to basic services for thousands of inhabitants.

The lack of attention to the maintenance of this road has resulted in traffic accidents and human and economic losses for the region. Given this situation, the signing municipal presidents request the immediate programming and execution of rehabilitation, maintenance and improvement works on Federal Highway 70.

They argue that these actions will not only guarantee road safety, but will also promote the economic and social development of the region, strengthening the bond between its communities.

The signatories express their confidence in President López Obrador’s commitment to the needs of the citizens of Jalisco and are available to collaborate in the execution of this project.
