22 Central American migrants rescued on Fresnillo-Durango highway

On the Fresnillo-Durango highway, agents from the National Institute of Migration (INM) and federal security authorities found and rescued 22 migrants of Central American origin, who were traveling among bales of animal feed, inside a cargo truck.

During a supervision tour on said federal highway, the authorities located an abandoned truck with a flat tire at kilometer 69.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, they found a double bottom filled with compacted pasture for cattle, and the group of people who were traveling illegally in the country.

Immigration agents transferred them to the Zacatecas Immigration Station to carry out their administrative process and the minors were channeled to a shelter of the state Juvenile Attorney’s Office.

Through a statement, the INM reported that the entire care process was carried out with full respect for their human rights.

Just last July 31, also near Fresnillo, 104 migrants from Egypt, Morocco, Nepal, China, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic were rescued.

Among that group were six unaccompanied minors, five men (four from Guatemala and one from Egypt) and a woman also from Guatemala.
