Case of alleged police abuse in Mazatlán chicken business is moving forward: SSPM

El secretario Jaime Othoniel Barrón Valdez habló sobre el caso de presunto abuso policial

By assuring that it will not be “put on ice,” the Secretary of Public Security, Jaime Othoniel Barrón Valdez, said that the case of the alleged abuse of authority by preventive elements in a chicken business in the Lomas del Ébano neighborhood is moving forward.

He indicated that it is an investigation that is being carried out by the Internal Affairs Unit and clarified that he has no control over this department of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat. They are the ones who are carrying out the investigations and then turning the case over to the Internal Control Body.

“So far there is no information, I am not intervening, I have not wanted to intervene so that there are no misinterpretations and they say ‘he is intervening in favor’. Until they determine it (…) they should have already been called (to testify to the police), they have not informed me about that situation,” said the police chief.

Secretary Barrón Valdez said that this Immediate Intervention unit that participated in the alleged abuse of authority and injuries to the staff of a chicken sales business continues to work normally and the investigations correspond to Internal Affairs and the Internal Control Body, which are the corresponding instances.

The Municipal Public Security Secretary stated that, if the preventive elements are found guilty, the law must be applied to them and “there will be no cover-ups” nor will the case be sent “to the freezer”, everything will depend on the resolution of Internal Affairs and the Internal Control Body.

As will be remembered, it was last Tuesday, July 9, that the Immediate Intervention units of the Public Security Secretariat arrived, and according to a video of the same business, an alleged police abuse was witnessed, where they entered the business, beat workers and were accused of stealing around 20 thousand pesos.

The owners filed a complaint with Internal Affairs, the Internal Control Body and the State Human Rights Commission.
