If today we know part of our past, it is thanks to photography, as Manuel Alejandro Tijerina Delgado expressed it, who captures the essence of what Tamaulipas really is and through his lens shares it at a national level.

The young man from Tamaulipas participated in a contest organized by the Mexican Center for Environmental Law (Cemda) where he managed to put the name of the state on high, by photographing the Aldama caves and being the winner of first place at a national level.

Tijerina Delgado is a student of the Bachelor of Communication Sciences at the Faculty of Law and Sciences (Fadycs) of the UAT in Tampico, but his main passion is photography.

“I have a fascination for knowing what happened before, I am a lover of history, having a document or something physical that shows me what happened before me is something that always generated many emotions in me”

He shared that seeing an old image is like traveling to the past and remembering a moment as it was; “The phrase that motivates me to take photos is ‘retract the time we live in’, you encapsulate a specific moment in history, which will remain like that forever.”

He also added that he is a person who likes to go out for walks alone and get lost in nature, in order to capture unique moments with his camera; “I tend to be someone who likes to go for walks in nature a lot, mainly alone or with someone because sometimes you don’t usually enjoy it that much.”

The contest organized by Cemda was published under the theme “My connection with Nature” where the objective was to transmit through a photo the connection that human beings have with their natural environment.

Therefore, Alejandro saw an opportunity, more than being able to win, to be able to share his work; “I saw that I had a chance of winning or more than anything of showing my work, I feel that it was a contest that suited me very well so I decided to take a photograph in a very beautiful place in the Gruta Los Cuarteles in Aldama Tamaulipas.”

Thanks to this photo titled “Contemplating” in the category of “Camera in hand”, Alejandro Tijerina managed to take first place at the national level and mentioned that the main message is that the human being is only a temporary resident in the world.

“From my perspective I didn’t think I was going to win, it’s a much bigger contest than what I’ve participated in before, I let the days go by and I found out that I won when they sent me an email” he commented.

The photo was taken in Grutas Los Cuartes, in the municipality of Aldama, Tamaulipas and although it wasn’t his first choice to enter it in the contest, it ended up being the winner.

“I had several options to photograph, at first I wanted a photograph of life, but wild, but I feel that putting mainly an animal wouldn’t fit with the theme”.

“It’s one of those photos that one takes and leaves there, that you say it’s pretty but I don’t feel like it goes any further; I saw that it went with the theme and decided to go for it”.

In the photo you can see the inside of the cave and the silhouette of a man, who he mentioned is a close relative; seeing it gave it a special meaning.

“I took the photo in which an uncle of mine appears contemplating what the entire structure of the cave is and I gave it that theme, as we as humans are really not greater than nature, the idea that humans are above everything does not seem correct to me.”

Alejandro Tijerina Delgado’s passion for making the beauty of Tamaulipas known throughout Mexico led him to win first place nationally in the photography contest organized by Cemda, with the photo “Contemplating” captured in the Aldama caves.
