Representatives of the Mexican government and Diehl Aviation laid the first stone of the company’s new plant in Mexico, marking the official start of construction work and bringing the company closer to its customers in the Americas.
The event was attended by Francisco José Quiroga Fernández, Mexican ambassador to Germany; Genaro Montes Díaz, Undersecretary of Sustainable Development of the State of Querétaro; Alejandro Rolland, Director of Industrial Development of Querétaro; and Claudia Martínez Guevara, Municipal President of El Marqués.
The new plant, located in the PyMe Industrial Park, near Santiago de Querétaro, will initially have more than 8,200 square meters of production and office space, with plans to expand between 4,000 and 6,000 square meters in a second phase.
The construction project will be carried out primarily by the company Grupo Chufani. Production is expected to begin in 2025, starting with approximately 30 employees, a number that will increase to around 500 in the medium term.
The first product that Diehl Aviation will manufacture in Mexico will be baggage compartments for the Airbus A220, assembled in Mirabel, Quebec, and Mobile, Alabama, USA.
This new location will allow Diehl Aviation to strengthen its collaboration with important customers such as Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer and major local airlines.
The Americas represents a significant growth market for the company, and proximity to its customers will facilitate more effective collaboration, as well as reduce travel and transportation times.
The increased responsiveness and local presence will improve Diehl Aviation’s competitiveness, and the plant in Mexico will offer economic potential, improve production costs and create the conditions to establish a local supply chain, while accessing talented and qualified employees.
Querétaro, with its central location, excellent infrastructure and proximity to Querétaro International Airport, is an innovative industrial location, focused on automotive manufacturing and the aerospace industry, Diehl acknowledged in a statement. It is also home to renowned companies such as Bombardier, Airbus, Safran and Delta Airlines.
Diehl Aviation CEO Jörg Schuler said that “the laying of the first stone of our new plant in Querétaro is a pioneering strategic step for Diehl Aviation.”
This plant, he said, “allows us to reaffirm our commitment to be closer to our important customers in North America and Latin America, and to further strengthen our position in the market in the region.”
He also stated that the new facilities also improve “our efficiency and sustainability.”
