Jalisco has established itself as an attractive destination for Foreign Direct Investment in Tourism (FDI); during the first half of 2024 it attracted a total of 67.4 million dollars (mdd), the above, according to the Foreign Direct Investment Records of the Ministry of Economy.
The FDI is an indicator that refers to the flow of capital that comes from abroad and is invested in representative activities of tourism, among which those destined for lodging units, among others, can be considered.
This figure represents 7.5% of the total Foreign Direct Investment that Jalisco received in this period; which positions the entity among the five entities in the country with the highest Foreign Direct Investment in Tourism. The entities that attracted the largest flow of FDI were Baja California Sur, Mexico City, Quintana Roo, Yucatán and Jalisco.
The State Tourism Secretariat (Secturjal) highlighted that the good results are due to the promotion strategies carried out by the State Government through the Secturjal.
The IEDT in Jalisco was 21.5 million dollars in the first quarter and 45.9 million dollars in the second quarter, which adds up to a cumulative total of 67.4 million dollars at the end of the first half of 2024.
“With a foreign investment of 67.4 million dollars in the first half of this year, Jalisco is among the states with the highest Foreign Direct Investment in Tourism in the country. These numbers reflect the solid confidence that our state provides to investors and show the potential of Jalisco as a strategic destination for the growth and development of the tourism sector,” said Vanessa Pérez Lamas, Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco.
During 2023, Jalisco received 103.7 million dollars in IEDT; During the current state administration, Jalisco has accumulated an IEDT of 745.2 million dollars.
The Government of Jalisco, through the Ministry of Tourism, will continue to promote the destinations of the state and encourage the attraction of new investments to strengthen the tourism competitiveness of Jalisco.
