Praya: the festival in Huatulco to celebrate the land and tourism with purpose

Praya: el festival en Huatulco para celebrar a la tierra y el turismo con propósito

It’s time to imagine a new model of tourism, to foster a traveling community that, more than simply benefiting from the place it reaches, really seeks to contribute something to ecosystems and communities. Founded six years ago in Colombia, GreenSouls is the first collective in Latin America specialized in developing initiatives with an environmental and social impact. This year, and in the framework of Environmental Awareness Day, GreenSouls is coming to Mexico with its flagship festival Praya, whose name means ‘celebration of nature’ and whose lineup includes various activities to promote sustainable tourism and connect deeply with the earth and those who inhabit it.

The Praya festival will be an event in which, over the course of a weekend, attendees will be able to participate in different activities linked to sustainable tourism on the Oaxacan beaches of Huatulco and Mazunte. The choice of this destination is not incidental, but rather places are sought where both local authorities and the community support projects that align with the principles of GreenSouls, in order to collaborate on these initiatives, promote the type of tourism that these sites seek to attract and celebrate the responsibility that destinations assume to protect their ecosystems.

This festival is conceived as a kind of group trip open to the general public, but with a significant participation of content creators focused on environmental issues, as well as business executives seeking a more sustainable turn. The itinerary includes activities ranging from cleaning beaches and seas, reintroduction of species in their natural habitat, hiking, coral planting, to educational talks with biologists, a workshop on having a ‘zero waste’ life, meetings with the local community and cultural activities.

From September 26 to 28, the Praya festival aims to bring together approximately 50 travelers under an all-inclusive scheme. Tickets to the event include land and sea transportation once at the destination, an official kit (with a t-shirt, cap, tuxedo, gloves and rashguard), all meals during the event days, permit management, expert guides, accommodation in shared double rooms and a photography package.
