Querétaro Governor Mauricio Kuri González led the inauguration of the Texas State University Mexico campus in the municipality of Colón, marking a milestone in the consolidation of Elisia Education Hub, the first international educational center in Mexico.
This innovative project is designed to host globally recognized universities, with the intention of strengthening international education in the country.
Texas State University, an institution with more than 125 years of academic excellence, opens its doors in the state of Querétaro with bachelor’s degrees in key areas such as Computer Science, Biochemistry, Mass Media Communication, International Relations, Psychology, Nutrition and Interior Design.
University President Kelly Damphousse expressed his enthusiasm for this expansion and highlighted the importance of partnering with Elisia Education Hub, which already has alliances with Arkansas State University and the New York Institute of Technology.
Damphousse highlighted the historical relevance of the university, which was founded in 1899 and counts among its notable graduates Lyndon Baines Johnson, former president of the United States.
In addition, he emphasized that the institution is deeply committed to research, having generated more than 160 million dollars in funding in 2023 alone.
He also expressed the university’s interest in integrating the academic and student talent of the new campus in Querétaro.
Alexandra Strong, vice chancellor of Texas State University, celebrated the expansion in Mexico, highlighting that this project is part of an innovative initiative that seeks to bring the best of American higher education to the country.
Strong stressed that the university is not only a space for teaching, but a place where students can discover their purpose, develop wisdom and foster a passion for continuous learning.
The Secretary of Education of Querétaro, Martha Elena Soto Obregón, highlighted that this alliance reflects the commitment of the state government to the creation of quality educational opportunities, aligned with global challenges.
Soto pointed out that the leadership of Governor Mauricio Kuri has been fundamental for educational initiatives of this type to materialize, benefiting the local and regional community.
Roberto Quiroz, Cultural Affairs Counselor of the United States Embassy in Mexico, congratulated the university and the Querétaro government for generating new opportunities for young Mexicans, future leaders of North America.
The inaugural event concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and the presentation of the university’s official mascot, Boko the Bobcat, created in 1964.
It is worth noting that Texas State University is ranked sixth among the best universities in the world, according to the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) for 2023, and has been recognized as one of the best universities in the United States by Princeton Review and Forbes in 2024.
