Fumigation brigades were sent to prevent the reproduction of the mosquito that causes dengue in Los Cabos.
Los Cabos, Baja California Sur (BCS). The Health Secretariat of the Government of Baja California Sur shared that so far, 613 cases of dengue have been detected in the municipality of Los Cabos, as reported by the head of the department, Zazil Flores Aldape. Therefore, fumigation brigades have been deployed for larval control in areas with high incidence rates.
Cases have been particularly prevalent in the neighborhoods of San José del Cabo, where the operation is complemented by health personnel visits to these areas to identify confirmed cases of the disease transmitted by mosquito bites, as more than 80% of cases occur in the municipality.
To this end, the state agency redirected brigades from La Paz to the southern part of the state to intensify efforts with home visits to apply abate larvicide in daily water containers to prevent mosquito breeding. The groups have already visited Vista Hermosa and the municipal seat of Los Cabos.
“They visit homes to raise awareness among residents about the importance of replicating the ‘Wash, cover, turn, and throw’ strategy in their yards to eliminate artificial breeding sites of the transmitting mosquito, while also carrying out indoor fumigation using thermal fogging equipment to reduce the adult insect population,” she explained.
Currently, with the number of personnel deployed in the operation, there is daily coverage of between 500 and 600 homes to prevent and control the plague. In the coming weeks, the neighborhoods of La Ballena, Zacatal, and Santa Rosa will be visited, based on data generated by epidemiological surveillance.
