During the period that includes the Fiestas Patrias 2024, which runs from September 13 to 16, the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) estimates that hotel occupancy will be 59.5% in Mexico. However, the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, predicts that Riviera Maya will be above Cancun and Los Cabos.

The occupancy percentage that will be reached in these destinations during the Fiestas Patrias 2024 will be for Riviera Maya 73.6%; Cancun 71.6%; Los Cabos 70.1%; Mazatlan 69.9%; Mexico City 69.6%; Puerto Vallarta 68.8%; Monterrey 64.2%; Merida 64.3%; Veracruz 60.7%; Huatulco Bays 60.2%; and Guadalajara 59.5%. In Magical Towns, it is estimated that hotel occupancy will be 61% in Isla Mujeres; 55% in Tecate; 51% in Taxco and 49.9% in Cozumel.

On the other hand, Torruco indicated that the economic impact from the consumption of tourist services will be 30 thousand 394 million pesos (approximately 1.5 billion dollars). Likewise, he foresees that the impact from lodging alone will be 2 thousand 767 million pesos (144 million dollars).

He added that the arrival of 1 million 192 thousand tourists to hotels is estimated. Of these, it is expected that 924 thousand will be national tourists, that is, 77.6%; while 268 thousand will be foreigners, which represents 22.4% of the total.

He specified that, during this Fiestas Patrias season, 1,421,000 more national tourists will stay in other forms of accommodation, such as in the homes of relatives and friends, as well as in second homes; therefore, the total number of national tourists is estimated to be 2.3 million tourists during this period.

Torruco indicated that, for this long weekend, another 180,000 tourists, both national and foreign, are expected to stay in shared economy accommodation offered on digital platforms.
