Authorities apply prevention protocols on beaches in Los Cabos in order to avoid health risks, after the passage of tropical storm Ileana through the municipality to evaluate the quality of the water due to runoff that dragged garbage and sewage into the sea.
René Cota, state coordinator of the State Commission for the Prevention of Sanitary Risks (Coepris), said that sampling of the main beaches of the destination has already been carried out, but it will be until Thursday, September 19, when the results are available. Although environmental groups, citizens in general and authorities have been carrying out a series of cleaning days throughout the length and breadth of the stream beds such as the golden zone of Cabo San Lucas and the sides of the tourist highway and at the other end towards the city of Todos Santos, garbage accumulated, however, these actions were able to prevent a greater amount of waste from ending up on the coasts of Los Cabos.
Despite the recommendations made by inspectors of the Federal Maritime Land Zone (Zofemat) to users, it is possible to see people who do not take into consideration the recommendations and go to enjoy the water on beaches such as El Médano, which, given the proximity of the city to Cabo San Lucas, is one of the most frequented and where a large amount of domestic waste is thrown into the Salto Seco stream that flows into the Ocho Cascadas beach.
