In just a few hours, several cases of violence were registered in the northern zone of the state.
In less than 24 hours, violence escalated in different parts of the state, with a total of 9 deaths; 5 of these occurred in the municipalities of Solidaridad and Benito Juárez, while on the island of Cozumel, two people were attacked with Molotov cocktails and shots.
The tranquility of the residents of Puerto Aventuras was shattered by the discovery of a burned body on a vacant lot behind the Catholic church in the municipality. The victim was found to have signs of violence.
In addition, on August 19 of this year, another man’s execution was discovered on a dirt road, about 400 meters from Highway 307, near the Las Torres settlement and the Hard Rock hotel. However, this body did not show signs of torture like the one that was burned.
Another violent incident occurred in Palmas Turquesa, Playa del Carmen, where the lifeless body of a woman was found. Until the end of this edition, one person has been detained as a suspect to clarify the crime.
The woman had signs of violence and was found by a neighbor on Loros Avenue, near the street that connects sections two and three of the subdivision. In response, the municipal police arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.
The Secretary of Public Safety, Raúl Tassinari, confirmed the arrest of a suspect, stating that the investigation has been transferred to the FGE.
Although there were no executions, the calm on the island of Las Golondrinas was disrupted by a violent night that left the community shocked. On September 16, the Miraflores neighborhood became the scene of an attack with Molotov cocktails and gunfire, putting neighbors at risk and causing significant material damage.
The incident occurred around 3 in the morning when explosions were heard on Crisantemo Street. Three vehicles parked in public were consumed by fire: a Razer 4×4, a black Pulsar motorcycle and a Tracker, which suffered significant damage from the flames. In addition, a nearby two-story house suffered significant damage, with windows shattered by the explosions. Although the house was empty at the time, a dog that was inside was rescued in time.
Witness accounts indicate that the noises were heard not only in the Miraflores neighborhood but also in surrounding areas. Several people reported seeing a column of smoke rising from Crisantemo Street, causing panic among residents. Although firefighters arrived at the scene, they were unable to prevent one of the vehicles from being completely consumed by fire.
The crime scene was marked not only by fire but also by shots. After reviewing the area, police found at least six bullet casings on the pavement, confirming that there were firearm detonations during the attack. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine those responsible, but no further details have been provided.
This episode of violence was not isolated. Just hours later, on September 16 morning, the Centro neighborhood was shaken by another incident. Residents of 8th Street between Avenues 25 and 30 reported hearing shots in the area. Fortunately, there were no casualties in this attack, but it contributed to increasing the sense of insecurity.
In San Gervasio neighborhood, another house was targeted with gunfire, raising concerns among residents. Although there were no injuries in any of the incidents.
Reports suggest that these attacks may be related to groups of narcomenudists operating in Cozumel, leading to an increase in confrontations in recent weeks.
