Three new ‘Va y Ven’ routes begin operations in South Mérida with free rides

Three new routes joined the Va y Ven Transportation System in Mérida this Friday to improve mobility in the southern neighborhoods of the city.

New routes continue to be added to the Va y Ven Public Transportation System: Calle 42-Cruz Roja-Salvador Alvarado; Santa Isabel and Zazil Há-fracc. San José Tzal-Villa Bonita, all with departures and returns to the Center, which began operations last Friday.

The Yucatán Transportation Agency (ATY) reported that the new routes will operate from Monday to Sunday from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and the service will be free during its first week of operation, from September 13 to 20. Afterward, payment will be made with the Va y Ven card, which will have a social rate, and users will be able to enjoy discounts on transfers.

For the operation of the Centro-Calle 42-Cruz Roja route, six Volvo units will be put into service, which will travel through the city to points of interest such as Cecati No. 169; San Cristóbal Park; Municipal Women’s Institute; Santos Degollado Elementary School; Bodega Aurrerá Express Santa Rosa; Cobay Santa Rosa campus; Mexican Red Cross South base; Yucatán High-Performance Sports Center; Technical Secondary School No. 78; María Luisa neighborhood park and Ignacio Ramírez López Elementary School.

The Centro-Santa Isabel route will have six Volvo units and will recognize points such as: Lucas de Gálvez Market; San Cristóbal Park; Municipal Women’s Institute; Azcorra Park; Kukulcán Sports Complex; Cbtis No. 95; Unesco School Center; March 18 Elementary School; Santa Isabel Park; Miguel Ángel Salcedo Inzunsa Elementary School; Santa Ana neighborhood park and Juana de Asbaje Elementary School.

Four articulated Va y Ven units travel to Yucatán for the Mérida Periférico

Finally, for the Centro-Zazil Há-fracc. San José Tzal-Villa Bonita route, there will be a total of 8 Volvo units with which users can reach points such as Lucas de Gálvez Market, Cecati No. 169, El Campito Park, Justo Sierra Méndez Elementary School, Dolores Otero Park, Correa Mena Park, Consuelo Zavala Kindergarten, Technical Secondary School No. 26, Fernando Valenzuela Municipal Sports Unit, South Integral Center, and Villa Bonita Park.

In total, 21 new units will enter into operation, equipped with air conditioning, USB chargers, screens, and bicycle racks. They will be trackable through the Va y Ven app and have universal accessibility, being designed with exclusive spaces for people with disabilities, short stature, and the elderly, ramps for wheelchairs, low floors, and Braille signage.
