Despite the statements of Governor Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, who affirmed that the national holidays passed without significant incidents, the reality of violence in Puebla has marked a disturbing contrast. During the weekend of September 13-16, the state registered 22 homicides, ranking fifth nationwide in this area, according to the report presented at the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The data reveal a notable increase in violence. On September 13, one homicide was reported; however, the situation became critical on the 14th, with an alarming total of 14 violent deaths. On the 15th, the day of the cry of independence, six homicides were recorded, and the 16th closed with five more cases.
This increase in violence places Puebla among the six states that concentrate almost half of the homicides in the country, with a total of 337 cases recorded during the same period. Guanajuato leads the list with 42 homicides, followed by the State of Mexico with 28, Nuevo León with 27, and Sinaloa with 26, while Puebla is above Chihuahua, which recorded 21.
