Mayor Cecilia Patrón detailed that a new transport project is planned to connect Mérida’s comisarías.

In the coming days, the Mérida City Council will present a municipal mobility project to connect the comisarías during peak hours, benefiting especially workers and students so they can arrive on time to their workplaces and schools.

Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada announced that the proposal is for residents of certain comisarías to reach other better-connected communities, to take public transport through a Circuito Enlace in comisarías.

“The service will be free,” she assured. “A modification of the Circuito Enlace Aventura will be made, which will not disappear but will be used only on weekends when there is more demand to go to social points, and from Monday to Friday we will take advantage to serve the comisarías,” she explained.

Mayor Cecilia Patrón said they are currently analyzing the plan and will present it soon.

She specified that the Circuito Enlace Aventura route will not disappear but will continue to be present on weekends when it is most used, recalling that it transports to sites such as Parque del Centenario, Animaya, and the Extreme Sports Park in the west of the city4.

“The problem with some comisarías is that they do not have enough transport and arrive late to work or school, depending on the case. We are already mapping, seeing the routes, and we will connect the comisarías,” she commented.

This new circuit, she added, will connect the inhabitants of the comisarías with larger ones, with more fluid public transport routes or where the nearest point is to travel to their jobs or schools7. We are even analyzing if the units reach the Center. “The project is still under analysis and we will present it soon,” she said.

When asked about the problems between the city and the comisarías, Cecilia Patrón mentioned that there are common issues such as road repairs, sewerage, lighting, and public transport, but also specific social issues.
