Potential of Zihuatanejo’s El Limón Park as a protected area is highlighted

The biologist and coordinator of the UMDI-Zihuatanejo UNAM Multidisciplinary Teaching and Research Unit, Carlos Candelaria, considered that the El Limón state park can be a reference in the conservation of Protected Natural Areas (ANP) in Guerrero.

However, he said, a project of opening for local people and national and foreign visitors can be applied and it can be a great natural tourist attraction for the destination.

The expert stressed that the park is within the ANP category, which implies that the biodiversity and the ecosystems are working well “and that is how we must preserve them.”

He added that ecotourism activities can be carried out, but “it is not the same as going to a park for a weekend with your family and having a barbecue.”

He indicated that if a project is achieved in which it can be opened to the public, the activities must be of another nature such as hiking and it implies building these ecological paths.

“You walk along a path and every so often, with the strategic placement of signs where, for example, there may be QR codes, you can see your current location with your cell phone and have all the information about where you are standing and the species of flora and fauna that surround you,” he explained.

It is then a question, he added, of creating educational routes, both for the local population and for tourists, and for environmental education, so that everyone knows the natural wealth that it represents and conserves it.
