Dengue deaths in Oaxaca reach 11; hospitals report 52% occupancy

The number of victims of dengue in Oaxaca rose to 11, while hospital occupancy was reported at 52 percent, the state Health Secretariat reported.

The Undersecretary of Prevention in the agency, Ignacio Zarate Blas, reported that the new deaths from the transmission of the dengue mosquito, according to the laboratory confirmation made by the National Institute of Epidemiological Reference (InDRE), are three women between 38, 56 and 71 years old, with a death date of June 23, 24 and 15, 2024.

An 86-year-old man also died on June 13. The victims belonged to the Health Jurisdiction 1 Valles Centrales.

It was established that two of the victims suffered from chronic degenerative problems, such as diabetes and hypertension, which caused their health condition to register clinical complications.

The undersecretary reported that this week there are 147 new cases confirmed by laboratory, with a cumulative total of 3,314 in the entire state.

According to its clinical classification, 1,633 correspond to Non-Severe Dengue, 1,463 to Dengue with Warning Signs and 218 to Severe Dengue. By Health Jurisdiction, Valles Centrales has 2,645 cases, as well as seven deaths, Costa 371, as well as three deaths, Istmo 153 cases, Mixteca 51, Sierra 50 and Tuxtepec 44, as well as one death.

The hospital network is at 52 percent capacity. In the city of Oaxaca, in the General Hospital for Women and Children of Oaxaca there are 18 very serious patients with dengue, for a total of 160 hospitalized only in the metropolitan area.

By municipality, Oaxaca de Juárez has 25 new cases, followed by Santa María Huatulco and Pinotepa Nacional with nine each, Santa María Atzompa and San Pedro Pochutla with seven, respectively, and Villa de Zaachila with five; for a total of 62 municipalities with new reports.
