Samsung plant in Querétaro consolidates as hub for exporting household appliances to America

Samsung’s Querétaro plant is consolidating itself as a key export hub for household appliances for America, being one of the company’s most important worldwide. Focused on high-tech products, this plant plays a fundamental role in Samsung’s goal of expanding artificial intelligence through its “AI for All” initiative, which also covers Latin America.

With a daily production capacity of more than 16 thousand products, the Querétaro factory produces more than 4 million units per year. Of this total, 20% is destined to cover demand in Mexico, while the remaining 80% is exported to countries in North America and Latin America. Of this exported volume, 17% supplies markets such as Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Panama, Argentina and Uruguay.

Currently, it is responsible for the production of the main lines of household appliances sold in the Latin American market, such as the Family Hub, Bespoke, Top Mount Freezer refrigerators, as well as the Bespoke, Laundry Hub with AI, and top-loading washing machines and dryers.

“The Querétaro plant is not just a production center, but a symbol of Samsung’s commitment to innovation, whether in the manufacture of household appliances with cutting-edge technology and a high level of quality, or in maintaining a more efficient, safe, and sustainable mode of production,” said Byong Jin Kong, president of the production division of Samsung Electronics Mexico Production (SEM-P).

To achieve this, it receives constant investments in new equipment and stands out for the use of advanced technologies, such as automatically guided vehicles (AGV), high-precision industrial robots, and quality control tools. These include cameras that help correct the position of parts, identify materials, colors, and perform other detailed tests, guaranteeing products with the highest standards.

Sustainability

In addition, Samsung invests in increasingly sustainable processes. Currently, all waste materials from production are reused through a specialized area called the Green Center. This department is responsible for collecting, classifying and sending waste to various suppliers for recycling, according to the characteristics of each material. Much of this waste, such as cardboard, copper and metal sheets, is reused outside the factory, while the plastics generated in the injection plant are crushed and reused in the manufacture of new plastic components, subject to strict quality assessments.

Smart products

With regard to the technological innovations of the products, the factory has an advanced “know-how” system in the manufacture of efficient and intelligent household appliances. For example, the plant’s refrigerators incorporate vacuum insulating panels, which has allowed them to improve their energy efficiency by approximately 20%.

Another way to combine technology with energy optimization is through the integration of household appliances with the SmartThings platform. Most of the products manufactured in Querétaro have this advanced technology, which allows users to manage their consumption more precisely. In addition, Samsung’s artificial intelligence resources reinforce its commitment to the environment by avoiding water waste, reducing energy costs, and identifying the most appropriate operating cycle according to the consumer profile.

Economic and social impact

With more than 3,000 employees, Samsung’s Querétaro plant has also boosted the local economy since its founding in 2003. In addition to generating jobs, the unit encourages the development of regional talent through training and inclusion programs. These efforts have led to several certifications, including ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, ISO 9001, SCA for Energy Testing at REF, RBA, and the Company Committed to Human Rights of the Municipality of Querétaro.

Samsung also promotes initiatives focused on the physical and mental health of the area’s inhabitants, implementing environmental projects certified by the Pro Natura Noroeste Association. These include the treatment of river water used in the factory and various reforestation actions, contributing to the well-being of the community and the care of the environment.

As part of its corporate citizenship projects, Samsung factory employee volunteer campaigns actively participate in solidarity campaigns. These initiatives include the collection of clothing, food and plastic caps, with the aim of supporting people in vulnerable situations and contributing to the well-being of local communities.
